Can Blay

Santa Gertrudis, Centre
12 guests
6 bedrooms
6 bathrooms

Nestled into the rolling green hills near Santa Gertrudis, Can Blay is a six-bedroom villa with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. The 300-year-old finca (farmhouse) was lovingly restored in 2010, with much respect to its traditional Ibicenco charm, so the home is brimming with character, inside and out. Families can make the most of the spacious layout, including an independent guesthouse and outdoor games area, while those wanting to feel connected to the buzz of Ibiza will love knowing that the island’s most cosmopolitan village is just a few minutes away.

Bedrooms & bathrooms

The air-conditioned bedrooms at Can Blay exude a feeling of nostalgia, like staying in a friend’s charming family home. Rich Sabina ceilings are complemented with all-white bedding and statement chairs. The master suite and three bedrooms are set in the main house, with a further two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms in a separate casita, boasting independent access via the garden.

A homely, farmhouse-style kitchen in the main finca features rustic wooden doors and furnishings, plus Sabina beam ceilings built around a central skylight that fills the space with natural light. The living room provides a comfy space to relax on built-in sofas with plenty of cushions. Modern accents such as brass side tables, designer lamps and contemporary light fittings provide the perfect contrast to the original stone floors and white-washed walls. Furniture and décor run from the traditional to the eclectic, from vintage wireless radios and terracotta pots to striking woven wall hangings and antique wood carvings. The guesthouse too, is warm and welcoming, with a second country-style kitchen kitted out with all the mod cons needed.

Can Blay feels deeply hidden within the campo, surrounded by ancient olive trees, fruit orchards, blooming bougainvillea and fragrant jasmine, carob, orange, fig and pomegranate trees. Flanking the swimming pool are three towering palm trees, adding a touch of the tropics to the otherwise traditional exterior. A wooden cabana offers the perfect place for daydreaming, alongside a line of stylish sunbeds, while an outdoor barbecue area with a wood-fire oven and sink make alfresco dining a breeze. Take your meals at the large dining table beneath the poolside pergola, or the mix it up at the communal dining table at the front of the property. A ping-pong table and trampoline add extra fun elements for grown-ups and kids alike.

Good to know

  • The owners of Can Blay welcome all guests to help themselves to the plentiful bounty of fruits found on the trees across the property.
  • There is no air conditioning in the communal areas, however large double doors and windows open up to allow air to flow through the villa. All bedrooms are fitted with air conditioners.
  • The Sabina wood used to support the ceilings at Can Blay has a very rich heritage on this island, having been used in Ibiza architecture for hundreds of years. You may notice a certain scent as you step into Can Blay, which is due to the resin found on these ancient beams – it’s an aroma that is truly Ibicenco.
  • There is a wood-fire pizza oven at Can Blay, however the owners ask that you notify White Ibiza in advance should you wish to use it, so we can give you a run-through on the technique for firing it up to avoid any issues.
  • The villa is located down a beautiful tree-lined camino (dirt track), so please bear this in mind when requesting a rental car. While it’s not as bumpy as some of the caminos can be in Ibiza, it may not be suitable for very low vehicles.

Five more reasons to stay

  1. 1

While its close proximity to the buzzing village of Santa Gertrudis is a huge selling point for Can Blay, be sure to pay a visit to San Miguel – the village located in the opposite direction. With a more ‘small town’ vibe than Santa Gertrudis, San Miguel has just a few family-run restaurants including a wood fired pizza oven restaurant and one of the island’s most authentic Thai restaurants, plus a fantastic well stocked shop that is also open on Sundays.

  2. 2

Can Blay is very close to one of Ibiza’s most loved farm to table restaurants: Aubergine Ibiza. With a large outside terrace, a huge veggie patch onsite, a kids’ play area and of course, a wonderful family-friendly menu made predominantly from organic food plucked directly from the garden, it’s a beautiful place to while away the afternoon hours.

  3. 3

We understand not everyone wants to give up their fitness regimes during their holidays. A stunning new exercise studio, The Loft Ibiza, is just a few minutes’ drive from Can Blay, where you can practice Barre, Pilates and other classes, or ask us to arrange a personal trainer or yoga teacher to come directly to the villa.

  4. 4

There’s just one winding road that leads up to the church in San Miguel, which is known by locals as ‘Artisan Hill’. You’ll find handmade leather accessories, stunning fine jewellery and boho arts and crafts – it’s well worth a meander to the top. When you arrive, be sure to stop off at Can Xicu de Sa Torre, one of the oldest family run bars and tobacconists on the island, where Cati and her sister Tita serve up coffee, wine, beer and Hierbas Ibicencas to passers-by and locals alike.

  5. 5

Kids always enjoy a visit to the nearby caves, Cova de Can Marça. Once a pirate smuggling point, today’s it’s filled with sound effects and LED lighting to highlight the stalagmites and stalactites. It’s a pretty quick tour, so afterwards, we recommend heading down to the beach of San Miguel and hiking over the hill (it’s an easy 10-minute walk) to Utopia Chiringuito for lunch, and a swim in what feels like your own private cove.

  • Please keep in mind you are renting a private home and our owners request that you treat their property with respect at all times.

  • This villa operates a Saturday to Saturday changeover in high season, however there may be flexibility at other times of the year.

  • Check in is any time after 4pm on the date of your arrival. Check out is 10am. Late check ins can be arranged if needed due to flight times and are subject to an additional fee.

  • Due to our agreement with the owners of Can Blay, only approved White Ibiza suppliers may be given access to the villa during your stay. This includes private chefs, shopping home delivery services, nannies, massage therapists and more, which can be organised by our team on request. Please note, we require a deposit for these services.

  • Ibiza internet quality can be questionable at times! White Ibiza cannot be held responsible for the quality of the WiFi service in this villa.

  • White Ibiza Villas requires a credit card security deposit of 2,000€. This will be refunded on confirmation that no damages were caused during your stay at Can Blay.
