Description

Positioned on a hilltop in the bohemian north of Ibiza, Can Zama is a luxuriously appointed, contemporary five-bedroom villa designed by renowned British architect Mark Guard. Boasting magnificent views over a valley of fragrant pine trees and across to the Mediterranean Sea, the property is the very definition of a luxury mountain hideaway, and yet just five minutes away from the iconic pleasures of Benirrás beach. Choose to immerse yourself in the creature comforts of the villa – which boasts everything needed for luxury alfresco living in summer, plus fireplaces, underfloor heating and a heated pool for year-round stays – or head down the mountain for an authentic Ibiza experience when the mood strikes.

Bedrooms & bathrooms

There are five double bedrooms at Can Zama, each with its own unique style thanks to famed interior designer Rosarinho Gabriel. All suites feature air conditioning, flat screen TVs, en suite bathrooms equipped with L’Occitane products and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open to private chill-out terraces. On the top floor, the master bedroom boasts an adjoining spacious lounge area plus an expansive private terrace with sea views. Staff accommodation is available on request.

Interior

The living and dining areas at Can Zama open up on both sides, as if the house and the natural world are one structure, with the sea view always playing a starring role. The lounge is fitted with huge, plush sofas and an open fireplace, surrounded by statement towers of wooden logs, plus contemporary and tribal artwork and sculptures.. The ultra modern kitchen is equipped with two ovens and all the mod cons necessary for a holiday feast – whether you cook it yourself or call in a private chef to do the honours. The 10-seat dining table has sliding doors on two sides that open to the terrace and garden, creating the illusion of alfresco dining. And finally, there’s a cinema room with a projector screen, SKY TV and Apple TV, plus snug sofas for those nights when you want to settle in and chill.

Outdoors

Surrounded by lush lawn and thick pine forest, the entrance to Can Zama also boasts a typically Spanish fruit orchard – nature is truly in abundance here. A terrace adjacent to the dining and living areas features a sunken outdoor lounge complete with sofas and a fireplace for early or late season fireside chats. Outdoor beanbags and an olive tree under which sits a curved wooden chaise are the perfect places for lazy afternoons. Beyond the terrace, across the emerald green lawn, on a lower level of the hillside is a heated infinity pool surrounded by sunbeds, daybeds, and a shaded pergola. The views are simply breathtaking and there’s nothing like a lightly competitive game of petanque on the lawn as the sun starts to set – just prior to firing up the barbecue and dining alfresco at the rustic dining area.

Good to know

  • Pool and beach towels are provided for all guests, in addition to hairdryers and L’Occitane products in each bathroom.
  • In addition to a daily cleaning service, Can Zama’s housekeeper is on hand from Monday to Saturday to welcome you, take care of errands, prepare breakfast, make drinks and ensure your stay runs smoothly.
  • An osmosis filtered water system has been installed in the kitchen for safe drinking water for all guests.
  • Night owls needn’t worry about seeing the sun rise from the floor-to-ceiling windows of Can Zama – each bedroom is equipped with blackout blinds so you can enjoy a lie-in whenever you like.
  • Can Zama is accessed via a very bumpy uphill camino (dirt track) which may not be suitable for low cars – a 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended. White Ibiza can coordinate an airport transfer and have your rental car delivered to the villa for the smoothest arrival.
  • White Ibiza can also coordinate pre-arrival food shopping, boat charters, private chef, health and beauty services or full itinerary planning and hosting service.

Five more reasons to stay

  1. 1

The famous Benirrás beach is just a five-minute drive away, complete with hippie drumming rituals on a Sunday and well-known restaurant Elements Ibiza serving up a fab Mediterranean menu, alongside pizzas and a great children’s menu. We love to rent our own Spanish llaüt (traditional fishing boat) from Benirrás by day and pack a picnic for sundown – no skipper required!

  2. 2

The northern village of San Juan is just a short drive from the villa and is the place to be on a Sunday morning thanks to its local artisan market. From handmade jewellery and quirky crafts to organic food and even artisanal beers and coffee, it’s great for people watching and enjoying the live 1970s psychedelic style music. Our tip is to take the kids for brunch in the gardens of The Giri Café, in the heart of the village square, where they can run free in the beautiful gardens and play in the tepee while you enjoy a delicious meal.

  3. 3

Can Zama is located close to the famous San Juan ‘restaurant road’ meaning you’re spoilt for chose with nearby places to eat. Some of our favourites include Oleoteca Ses Escoles, Nagai, Es Caliu, A Mi Manera, Cana Pepeta and La Paloma (which is just off the main road). Contact us for access to our itinerary planning app, which makes reservations easy.

  4. 4

The roof terrace at Can Zama is the perfect space for yoga. Mats are provided by the owners, so please let us know if you would like us to book a professional instructor for a private session.

  5. 5

Can Zama is the perfect backdrop for your own outdoor cinema experience, either hidden within the forest, or in front of the house with the sea and mountains as your backdrop. Select the movie you’d like to watch, in any language, and leave it to us to coordinate the bean bags and popcorn. And of course, there’s always the indoor cinema room with the comfiest sofa for cooler out-of-season movie nights.
