Get me to the church on time!

Before you get your heart set on stained glass windows, white bows on pews and a priest in flowing robes, keep in mind it’s not as easy as pencilling your names into Father Juan’s diary for the occasion. Bookings must be made in person at least six months in advance and there are a few major requirements you’ll need to fulfil…

For Catholic Church ceremonies
*One of you must be Catholic.
*If you aren’t an official resident of Ibiza, your local priest will need to contact the church in Ibiza on your behalf.
*You’ll need to attend an official ‘Preparation for Marriage’ course.
*Get set for a bunch of non-romantic paperwork. You’ll need your baptism, communion, confirmation certificates and passports plus other legally binding reports and permission from your priest to marry outside the parish.
*You must deliver the wedding certificates to the Spanish Civil Registry after the wedding for the union to be legally recognised.

For Anglican Church ceremonies
*First get in touch with the English Speaking Church in Ibiza and Formentera, who have permission to perform the ‘Sacrament of Holy Matrimony’ blessing at several Roman Catholic Churches on the island to find out your options.
*You’ll need to get married in a civil ceremony before your church blessing, as it is not a legally recognised union.
*Attending an interview with your priest, plus at least two services in your Ibiza church and two in your local parish is mandatory prior to the wedding.
