Weddings in Ibiza – Meera & Prashant

There are Ibiza weddings, and then there was Meera and Prashant’s Ibiza wedding. A three-day production incorporating a traditional Hindu ceremony, Michelin calibre catering and 600 guests flown in from all around the world, this was one of the biggest and most impressive weddings the white isle had ever seen.

Their love story ‘officially’ began in 2014 – though Meera and Prashant had been at university together, they had really only been acquaintances until they met again many years later. A long distance courtship ensued, as Prashant was living in Dubai while Meera was based in London. “Countless trips and travel worldwide brought us even closer together,” remembers Meera.

It was during a trip to Rome that Prashant surprised Meera by asking him to be his wife in front of the iconic Colliseum, having flown her family in as a surprise to make it even more special. When it came time to decide on a wedding destination, there was no question it would be Ibiza – after falling in love with each other, Meera and Prashant then fell in love with Ibiza during the summer of 2015, while holidaying with friends and family.

“The island was so gorgeous and authentic and everyone was so charming we could not have chosen anywhere else,” says Meera, who had developed a particular fondness for Babylon Beach, Lio and HEART Ibiza during her time in Ibiza.

No matter where you are in the world, planning a wedding for 600 guests is a logistical challenge, and on an island even more so! Meera and Prashant enlisted the services of three teams from India for their island celebrations: in charge of hospitality was Motwane Entertainment & Weddings (MEW), design and décor was The Wedding Design Company (WDC) while food was the responsibility by TKAC, a Delhi-based catering company. Providing invaluable insider knowledge and essential on-the-ground planning and organisation were local experts Ibiza Management.

As 600 guests arrived in Ibiza, each was met by a host and seamlessly whisked away to their luxurious hotel dwellings. Meera and Prashant had one very important request to Ibiza Management when it came to taking care of their family and friends – to make sure everyone felt at home. They wanted to ensure those who had preconceived notions of Ibiza as only a ‘party island’ would get to experience the true spirit and beauty of the island. “We wanted to show how wonderful Ibiza is!”

While many brides and grooms are careful to spend the night before their wedding chilling out in their hotel while prepping for the big day, for Meera, Prashant and their family and friends, the celebrations began the night before the ceremony. Taking over the stunning waterfront venue of Lio Ibiza, in the swanky Marina district, guests were invited to a sangeet – an Indian pre-wedding tradition that sees the couple’s families and friends meet and mingle, includes an incredible meal and in this case, culminated in an amazing choreographed dance performance by the bridal party.

The following day the official ceremony took place at MELIA Hotel in Santa Eulalia, where the couple were married in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony officiated by a priest who had been flown in from London for the occasion. Under the gorgeous Ibiza blue sky, the rooftop terrace of the venue was transformed into a pink and white paradise, complete with a striking floral mandap (with flowers sourced from Barcelona) offset with elegant, sophisticated seating. Think haute couture meets Bollywood blockbuster, full of high glamour, love and laughter.

The bride was truly dazzling in a rich red and gold creation by top Indian couturier Abu Sandeep Jani Khosla, complete with gorgeous Jimmy Choos peeping out from below. Dripping in heirloom jewellery including uncut diamonds and pearls, Meera looked every bit the princess as she met her equally as dapper groom – who was dressed by up and coming Bombay designer Kunal Rawal – beneath the floral arches. Mehra Khola, India’s most prominent and talented make-up artist was also flown in for the event, though the bride’s natural beauty clearly shone through as she glowed beneath her traditional gown.

While Meera and Prashant were indeed the stars of the show, their bridal party were also done up to the nines, with bridesmaids also dressed by the same designer as the bride and the best men dressed in Avinash Punjabi, a top Bombay based tailor famed for bespoke menswear. Every guest was offered hair and make-up services for the event, and every which way you turned, there was breathtaking beauty – be it the stunning fresh flowers, the incredible couture, the beautiful bride or Ibiza’s spectacular coastline.

After the official ceremony, guests were whisked away – in slick, glossy black vehicles courtesy of on-island transport company Dipesa – to HEART Ibiza, where the official reception took place. The famous Ibiza venue had been transformed into a floral wonderland in shades of violet, pink and purple and was the perfect setting for a party, complete with performances by renowned Indian singer Kanika Kapoor, live music by The Earth Lights plus percussionists, accordion players and Flamenco dancers over the course of the evening.

Each guest was gifted a bespoke passport holder with their initials to remember the occasion, alongside an Ibiza hamper bag and (“for the youngsters!” laughs Meera) some great hangover kits. When the magical three-day extravaganza finally came to an end, Meera and Prashant still had their honeymoon to look forward to, encompassing Japan, Los Angeles and Napa Valley – though there’s no doubt they are already planning their return trip to the white isle, as are many of their guests who are now as in love with Ibiza as the newlyweds!
