Some people study for years to master a foreign language; others pick it up on the trot, bumbling through staccato conversations until everything clicks into place. Cate Watts found herself learning Spanish with some of the most wisened and indifferent teachers available. Her language professors were the builders, plumbers, electricians and carpenters who helped construct a heavenly villa in the lush centre of Ibiza. It was a baptism by fire for this highly experienced interior architect. “It was definitely a learning curve,” says UK born Watts, who possesses just the right mix of tenacity, precision and charm to survive building a house from scratch in Ibiza.
