Good Friday Procession

It’s Easter Week in Spain, known locally as Semana Santa, and that means the pointy hats are out, ready for parading through the streets. There are various processions celebrated all month, running up to the gran finale on Friday March 29, 2024, at 8pm in both Ibiza town and Santa Eularia, when both towns close many of their streets for several hours.

Along with the giant, and seriously heavy, wooden cross that is carried throughout the cobbled calles all the way up to the Cathedral for a special mass, there’s also one of the most impressively spectacular and reverent displays of community and history, well worth catching if you can get into either of the port towns. Traffic is hefty and parking tricky, plan your trip in advance and go in early.
