Finca La Plaza

A secret garden style Ibiza restaurant exploring a new wave of flavours, Finca La Plaza is a culinary oasis in the village of Santa Gertrudis.

Words: Abby Lowe

Secrets lie around every corner in Ibiza, and while the magic of Finca La Plaza is well documented, its location behind a rickety wooden gate and rustic farmhouse door still comes as a surprise. Subtly tucked away from the busy main square in Santa Gertrudis, this beautiful Ibiza restaurant is a hidden gem where dinners unfold among a jungle of billowing flora, and an assortment of orange, olive and palm trees create a cove-like canopy. As the skies above the village blush pink at dusk and the glorious private garden glimmers with the glow of fairy lights, foodies from around the globe are treated to world class cuisine, masterful cocktails and attentive service.

The kitchen at Finca La Plaza serves as a laboratory for the entire Island Hospitality group, resulting in an ever-evolving menu that frequently changes to reflect the seasons. Exceptional produce is the star of the show at the Ibiza restaurant, and consequently every dish is bursting with flavour, inspiration, dynamism and innovation. Unexpected combinations and expert techniques are common, and even the bread course is a revelation. Served warm with salted caramel butter, chi, sun-dried tomato and fermented lemon emulsion, it sets the bar for the delectable array of plates to come.

Starters at the Ibiza restaurant include crispy artichoke with rich summer truffle; Bluefin tuna tartare with mango caviar and spicy sauce; or Ibérico ‘Joselito’ ham with warm fig bread, tomato and citrus. Main courses at Finca La Plaza are equally as tempting – try the smoked Wagyu rib-eye with corn tortillas and pickles; the sensational Josper roasted scallops with mushrooms and potato and truffle cream; or the succulent red prawn tempura, with zucchini flowers and ginger ponzu sauce. Vegans will enjoy the portobello mushroom ravioli with Ibizan tomato sauce, and don’t forget to add delicious sides like smoky charcoal asparagus and thick-cut pont neuf potatoes.

A variety of luxurious sweets round off the feast at Finca La Plaza, and for those who prefer a liquid dessert, there’s plenty to indulge in on the cocktail menu that’s tended by the most talented mixologists on the island. Sip on a Paloma, made with coconut oil-infused, pink grapefruit juice, lime, agave and soda, or La Finca, a concoction of Pisco, Italicus, gin, and hibiscus and citrus infusion. Meanwhile, wine lovers will relish the Ibiza’s restaurant’s extraordinary wine cellar, featuring over 220 of the finest drops. A place where diners are encouraged to slow down, take their time and savour every mouthful, time stands still within this magic secret garden.
