Ses Salines Formentera

Just like her sister island Ibiza, Formentera is famed for its stunning salt plains.

Just like her sister island Ibiza, Formentera is famed for its stunning salt plains, part of a nature reserve on the outskirts of the La Savina area. What you may not know however, is that Ses Salines de Formentera is actually also a UNESCO World Heritage listed site, home to an endangered 100,000 year-old Oceanic Posidonia (mineral rich seaweed) that spans eight kilometres. Of course, you can’t really spot it while driving through the multi-hued salt flats but it’s still a beautiful sight – particularly as the sun begins to set and the colours of the sky are reflected in the shallow waters below. Keep your eyes peeled for organic products for sale derived from Formentera salt, such as beauty products and cooking products – the perfect souvenir!
