Morna Valley

Tucked along back roads between Santa Eulalia and San Carlos, this lovely stretch of verdant countryside contains some of the most beautiful and luxurious villas on the island. The vibe in Morna Valley is less showy than on some of the coastal enclaves. Luxury here prefers to be concealed among pine forest and fruit orchards – privacy is absolute. Villas in this area cover the gamut of architectural styles with an emphasis on traditional elements. Think high-tech farmhouses as well as sleek contemporary designs that share some common themes: white washed walls, dry stone and luxuriant gardens.

Local dining

There are few dining options actually in the valley but so many fantastic choices nearby. Head towards the San Juan ‘restaurant road’ where you’ll find award-winning Japanese fusion eatery Nagai, MediterrAsian favourite Bambuddha, farm-to-table Italian restaurant A Mi Manera. Atzaró Agroturismo is also definitely worth a visit as their open-air dining terrace, La Veranda, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving up farm-to-fork Mediterranean favourites and delicious healthy options too.

Nearby attractions

The quaint village of San Juan hosts an authentic hippie market on Sundays with live music, artisanal stalls and a buzz that evokes the feeling that you’ve stepped back in time to the 60s or 70s. There are several defined walks throughout Morna Valley itself, which is a rambler’s dream. The valley’s location between the cute village of San Carlos and the bustling town of Santa Eulalia means there is plenty of scope for boutique hopping when the urge for retail therapy strikes.

Best beaches

Being close to the eastern coast means this area has a plethora of beach options. The petite Cala Mastella, just past San Carlos, is simply divine while the nearby Cala Llenya boasts masses of soft white sand and family friendly swimming. Further down the coast, Es Canar beach is alive with markets, stores and water sports while Playa Niu Blau is a sleepy beach popular with locals and families and Santa Eulalia has a lovely stretch of golden sand right in the centre of town.
