Santa Gertrudis

The vibe here is an insouciant classiness with just a touch of artistic whimsy and a traditional soul. Excellent schools, fantastic restaurants and access to some gorgeous beaches, here we tell you why Santa Gertrudis is one of the most sought after locations on the island.

Key characteristics: This is one of the prettiest villages in Ibiza, Santa Gertrudis has an active community vibe. The local primary school is renowned for its modern approach to education. Just down the road is Morna International College, the only school in Ibiza providing the British curriculum and examination systems to an international student body. Surrounded by beautiful countryside with easy access to any where on the island, the centre of town features a main square, which is a hub of restaurants, cafes and stores all under the majestic gaze of the ancient church.

Architectural styles: Tradition and modernity blend seamlessly together in Santa Gertrudis. New developments respect the existing architecture. This is important because the town maintains a coherent style. Typical fincas fit comfortably with modern townhouses and apartments. The centre maintains its traditional heart while the outer streets contain beautiful villas and the surrounding countryside is dotted with farmhouses and more contemporary villas.

Why Santa Gertrudis is trending: It’s all about quality and diversity in this unique village. Eating options are unlimited with Numero 74 L’Atelier acting as an after school hangout for many. Raw, vegan and vegetarian restaurant Wild Beets is paving the way for the health-conscious and Picadeli is handing out delicious deli and picnic foods to take away. Then there is always breakfast at Musset – the hot gossip spot – and plenty more. Shopping is a delight with lots of gorgeous boutiques including Es Cucons and the enormous homeware extravaganzas Sluiz and La Galeria Elefante. Cool, hip and international, Santa Gertrudis is always trending.

Who buys here: Being one of the most sought after locations in Ibiza means prices can be high but there are still some accessibly priced homes on the market. Families love Santa Gertrudis because of the excellent school option of Morna International College. The bike lanes and pathways make it an easy walk to school and the cafes means drop offs are always celebrated with great coffee. There’s a good international mix with Spanish, Dutch, English and Germans making up most of the population.

Lifestyle: It’s easy to understand the needs that drive parents to look for property in this area. If you’re going to be doing the school run four times a day you’ll want to be in Santa Gertrudis. It’s a good place for the health conscious with a great organic food store, healthy restaurants and lots of Pilates, yoga and fitness studios. Life here is good, filled with great food, nice vibes and a welcoming community. On Sundays you still see the local people dressed up for church, so it feels quite old school.

Local attractions: The town itself is an attraction. Nearby is the gorgeous Benirrás beach with its beach club Elements Ibiza and hippie bongo drummers playing as the sun goes down on Sundays. Shopping is hard to resist with many lovely boutiques and the auction house Casi Todo to pick up some antiques. There are several annual festivals in Santa Gertrudis including the Domingo del Arte art festival and the blessing of the animals in the church.
