Ibiza clubbing: Be Crazy! – A new chapter

It’s a universal truth acknowledged by all long-standing music lovers in Ibiza that to host and promote a popular party is no easy feat, especially over a sustained period of time. There are many complex reasons for this – changing tastes, music trends, fierce competition – but all of these factors in some way feed into the complexities of trying to build a successful fiesta from the ground up. And yet, in spite of all that, there are some who manage to make it look easy. Take Jean Claude Ades, the man at the helm of über-successful Be Crazy!, who’s now had a presence on the island for almost eight years.

In its formative years, Be Crazy! seduced an excitable crowd with soulful beats at Lío Ibiza in Ibiza Marina, but this summer, it’s moving to a new home – across the road at HEART Ibiza – where it will take the Friday night slot every week from June 1 to October 15, 2018. It’s an interesting move from Jean Claude – his fans were devoted to his residency at Lío Ibiza – but for a party to keep on growing, it’s one that makes a lot of sense. “After so many years, I needed a change,” he says, “I was beginning to feel the need for new experiences and new challenges – it was time to start a new chapter.”

There’s no denying that it can be healthy to shake things up, which is precisely what Jean Claude has put in motion with a move to HEART Ibiza, a venue with more space and importantly, a bigger dance floor, among many other benefits. “Heart is a very open-minded venue,” Jean Claude – who also holds a residency called The Sundays at the famous Scorpios beach club in Mykonos this season – explains. “That’s going to give us a lot more space to work outside the box, in terms of music and the crowd. It’s a sophisticated, intimate space with a great following from clubbers who really appreciate new sounds and upcoming artists.”

This foray into attracting a new crowd means that Jean Claude can spice up his line-ups, in the process giving the brand and the party a general refresh that will make it more appealing to music fans than ever. “At the opening party on June 1, I’ve got Anja Schneider and Jonas Saalbach playing alongside me – it’s a brilliant line-up,” he says. And of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg – there’s a whole host of talented tastemakers waiting to step into the Be Crazy! spotlight.

“Every year, I always try to invite new, up-and-coming DJs and producers to come and play with me,” Jean Claude explains. “That really helps bring a new musical flavour to the island and is something that’s very important to me.” Nevertheless, he balances out this approach to sourcing fresh talent by securing the services of veterans including WhoMadeWho, Alex Niggemann, Guy J, Konstantin Sibold, Marcus Worgull and Virginia. A sign that Be Crazy! is set to remain very much true to its origins.

“There’s still going to be a wonderful mix of ethno-deep-melodic-techno,” says Jean Claude. “It’s just that this time around everything is going to be more club oriented. There will be fantastic shows and visuals throughout the night, but most importantly, the sound system is bigger, so the music will hit your heart even stronger.” So while the venue may be changing, Be Crazy! enthusiasts will still be able to lose themselves in the sultry, seductive sounds Jean Claude has become so synonymous with, while dancing alongside an international crowd.

“It’s going to be so great to dance in a venue that is so unique compared to every other on the island,” Jean Claude says. “We’re going to take our guests on a sonic journey, proving that you can live life to the fullest. We’re going to deliver a multi-sensory experience, which will embrace everyone with an open heart and make them feel like they’re at the centre of the night.” And with words like this, suddenly you need no explanation for Be Crazy!’s continued success. Because when a party puts the clubber at the centre of its priorities, it doesn’t matter where it goes, the fans are sure to follow.
